Unifying criteria for MCR tile production

Parameters where set for quality, production procedures and application of MCR. A team of instructors and controllers of quality who will oversee the faithful compliance were capacitated as well.

Sustainability of cement and concrete is being discussed in Davos

sm_davosAlmost none of the inhabitants of this Swiss mountain village of Davos noticed that for some days they had the privilege to host more than half of what a participant called “the brains that today work with cement and concrete in the world”. This event entitled “Advances of cement and concretes: sustainability” took place from July 3-7, for the tenth time, in this village that is also host of the World Economic Forum.

Reforestation with bamboo as an ecological alternative

A project with bamboo in Cuba covers the spectrum from “In Vitro” reproduction to the use and marketing of bamboo as construction material, furniture and handcrafts. It is located in three provinces affected by the loss of productive capacity of the land due to its intensive use for cattle and agriculture, as well as the loss of their native woods for fuel and as a construction material.

In 2005, SofoNic has started a dual education program for masons in Nicaragua, using its house-building programs as a base. Teaming up with the local technical school in Jinotepe they are graduating about ten masons every year since. Most f them have found jobs in construction or have started a business on their own. SofoNic has contracted several of them as master masons in the reconstruction programs in Haiti.
