Pedals for Progress
Pedals for Progress celebrated ten years of its bicycle recycling program with a World Union, bringing together overseas partners and David Schweidenback´s energetic team. Since 1991 Pedals for Progress has shipped 41,281 bicycles around the world. It gathers used bicycles through community groups and ships them to their partners, who sell the bicycles and with the proceeds are able to pay the shipping costs to import more bicycles, as well as support activities and projects in their communities.
Bicycles have an impact in Carazo, Nicaragua
Bicycles have become something of a tradition in the department of Carazo, forming part of the local culture. Students, workers, women, even the elderly mobilize themselves with this environmentally friendly means of transport.
Bicycles and the Environment
How we get from our house to place of work is a major factor in daily living. In most developing countries, public transport is insufficient and inadequate and most people simply have no way of getting to work other than a several kilometer footmarch.
