Micro-Concrete Roofing tiles: a School for Life.
In Cali, the third largest city in Colombia, the School for Life Foundation started the production of MicroConcrete Roofing tiles (MCR) in a project that includes workshops on bamboo and wood building, masonry, gastronomy and marketing & sales.
The MCR workshop is located in the “Colegio de las Aguas Montebello” School. Two full MCR equipments were acquired by the Escuela para la Vida Foundation. José, teacher and director of MCR workshop and seven students of the “Colegio de las Aguas” school received the technology transfer from Estuardo Quispillo, one of the top MCR instructors of the EcoSur Network.
After the initial technology transfer and with theri own tiles produced on site, a part of the school was roofed on top of a beautiful bamboo structure.
The students of “Colegio de las Aguas” School had the opportunity to show their skills learned during the BIOCASA 2010 conference, where they exposed the achievements of their organization and made demonstrations of how the MCR tiles are made.
The “Colegio de las Aguas Montebello”, founded in 2004, currently benefits more than 300 students. The School for Life Foundation in Colombia and Schule fürs Leben in Germany cooperates with funds, teachers and volunteers.
