First Dry Toilet in Chambo

Inodoro seco en Chambo

Even if the water supply is not a problem, the cost of building an appropriate waste water treatment plant is way too high to be able to serve al the population, it makes that in rural areas from Ecuador, very few houses have a clean and useful toilet

In Chambo, 10 km from Riobamba, capital of the province of Chimborazo, Ecuador, the first Dry Toilet was handed to the Major and the Municipality. Besides being a proper sanitation solution, as well as for the biological needs as well as for the general hygiene, it saves a lot of money from the municipalities because it is not needed to build a sewage system or a waste water treatment plant. Gray waters from the shower are very little pollutant and can be reused for the orchard.
