Alfredo Martirena entered the world on October 6, 1965 in Santa Clara. In 1984 he began to work in MELAITO. In 1986 he won the top prize in the competition “25 years of humor PALANTE”. In 1987 he published the book “De oreja a oreja” (From ear to ear). In addition, he collaborated with other authors in more than ten books. “Humor in Vitro”, his most recent book, was published in November 2002.

Since his beginnings as a caricaturist he has collaborated in publications in Cuba and outside the country, as well as in film scripts in the ICAIC. He has accumulated more than thirty national and international awards, and his work has been exhibited in art galleries in Italy, Brazil, Mexico, France, Turkey, Belgium, Switzerland, etc.

In 2000 a wandering exhibition of his caricatures for the book “From Disaster to Dignity, 20 years of Grupo Sofonias”, was displayed in major libraries and prestigious institutes in Offenbach and Darmstadt, Germany, as well as in Glarus and other Swiss towns. This lively interpretation of development work has also been exhibited in Nicaragua, with other exhibitions planned in various countries. That same year he created a humorous mural in the Hotel Colonial in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.

He is a member of the UNEAC and the UPEC.
